Alhamdulillahi rabbil ‘alamin, was-salatu was-salamu ‘ala ashrafil anbiya’i wal mursalin.

Praise be to Allah who has made this event possible. This Islamic Psychology Summit is intended to be a milestone in establishing Islamic Psychology in the educational system. This effort is very important to elevate human dignity, as we have all witnessed how humanity is disregarded in recent times. The genocide in Gaza is the tip of the iceberg of dehumanization that has been happening over the last 500 years through colonization and racism.

Psychology, as the science of human beings, has been misused and abused by those in power to oppress the weak. Psychology has also misguided humanity as a whole through the extreme liberalization movement. The difference between normal and abnormal is becoming more blurred year after year. Therefore, the discipline of Psychology needs to be redefined for the betterment of humanity.

Psychology needs a stronger anchor to ensure the preservation and elevation of human dignity. In order to do so, the discipline of Psychology needs to be submitted to a higher authority that provides guidance for the development of theories, research, and practices with a clear purpose. The Islamic principles that incorporate fundamental values of human existence need to be referenced in developing the science of Psychology in the future. The meaning of Islamic principles refers to principles that submit to Allah as the ultimate designer of human life and the ultimate destination of humanity’s journey in this world.

The Islamic Psychology Summit 2024 is a forum to share the state of the art of ideas, research, and applications in Psychology based on Islamic principles. The symposiums will discuss Psychology from multiple contexts of human life. These contexts include the following themes: (1) Why Islamic Psychology; (2) Learning from the Past; (3) Islamic Psychology in Different Cultures; (4) Happiness and Ethics; (5) Islamic Psychology and Psychological Problems; and (6) Personal and Organizational Issues.

The Islamic Psychology Summit 2024 is made possible by the support of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), the International Association of Muslim Psychologists (IAMP), and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). May Allah bless this effort to redefine Psychology for the benefit of humanity as a whole. Aamiin.
